First class care for the people of Somerset
Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre takes outstanding patient care very seriously indeed. Committed to the communities in which it operates, the hospital has been the main sponsor of the Believe in Somerset Awards since their inception.
It was the first hospital in the country to be rated ‘Outstanding’ across all five of the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC’s) exacting criteria, and according to the annual Patient-Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) audit it is joint top in the country for the quality of its patient care environment.
Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre provides day case and inpatient surgery to NHS patients. Its personnel, clinical and non-clinical, focus on providing the best possible personalised care. Waiting times are comparatively short, the patient experience second to none and outcomes are excellent – helping patients to get better, faster.
The services offered at the hospital cover:
Joint replacements (hips, knees and shoulders);
General orthopaedic surgery;
Ensuring that its patients benefit from the very latest and best techniques and equipment, Care UK (which runs Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre) has over the past year invested more than £1 million in new diagnostic imaging equipment, including ultrasound, a C-arm X-ray machine for use in operating theatres and a fully renewed and refurbished MRI facility which includes features such as silent scanning (beneficial to anxious patients who may find the noise of an MRI scan distressing)and a fast scan option which speeds up scanning for patients suffering from claustrophobia. Varied magnetic coil options mean a patient can be scanned in a position which is most comfortable for them.
It also reduces the scan time by between five and 10 per cent, allowing the radiography team to scan a patient every 20 minutes – more than 20 patients a day.
